The prestige of XJTLU as a Sino-Foreign university was one of the factors that influenced my choice to leave my previous job to join the English Language Centre. This joint venture allows me to be in a very Western working environment with access to resources from Liverpool. I have been able to complete my Post Graduate Certificate and gain Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy as well as apply for various roles include becoming the module leader for "Introduction to Intercultural Communication". Leading this module has been a real joy of mine because of the freedom I have in selecting the concepts and teaching approaches. We have great discussions in class as students explore their cultural identity and see how that interacts with the world around them.

Outside of my work life, the community of foreign and local staff are very welcoming. I participate in multiple social groups such as book club, badminton, boxing, yoga, and hiking. There is a beautiful mix of indoor and outdoor activities available. Suzhou is special because it is famous for its ancient gardens and with that brings art exhibitions and concerts. One of the reasons why I wanted to work in China is to learn more about the culture, and Suzhou has been a great place to experience the arts, history, and food.
